What do you think about bongs? It is not just a piece of glass used to smoke tobacco! It is much more and has a much higher value than that. Let’s start with the basics!
What is a bong, exactly?
A bong is usually a glass pipe used to smoke tobacco and herb. The bong contains water that cools down the smoke. In the Middle East, bongs were invented thousands of years ago for smoking tobacco. The bong is the preferred method for smoking herbs by many because it allows the smoke to penetrate deeper into the lungs and mucous tissues faster.
What is a bong?
The bong is composed of many impermeable materials to air and water. Bongs consist of glass, acrylic, and ceramic materials.
What is a bong made of?
Basic bongs generally comprise Flared Mouthpieces, Chambers, Stems, or Bowls! New bongs have many features, such as a percolator, ice catcher, etc. The Percolator diffuses the smoke, making it smoother and easier on the throat. On the other hand, if the bong has an ice catcher, you should go for it.
What is the purpose of the bong?
Bongs are very elegant both in their functional and non-functional aspects! Practical ways include adding a percolator to the bong (which allows for further filtration) and multiple bowls (which allows two people to smoke simultaneously).
What is the difference between percolators and bongs?
Percolators and filters are placed inside the Bong. They are generally made of the same glass as the bong. This is where the glassblowers show off their skills, creating a fascinating internal structure to cool the smoke through. The percolators can be placed inside the neck or body of the bong, and the glass is then welded using a torch. Any extra glass must be removed to ensure the final product is smooth.
If necessary, the neck can be reattached using a spinning device (also known as a lathe), which keeps the pieces of glass steady and uniform as they are heated up and joined. Some glassblowers use lapping wheels to flatten the bottom of a bong. These wheels rotate an abrasive wheel lubricated with water and often coated with diamonds.
The neck is then attached, and the piece of glass is placed in an annealer to help remove the heat stress on the glass in the blowing process. If this is not done, bongs will be more likely to crack under pressure, even if the climate changes slightly.
