You might want to start smoking a pipe.

Are you considering taking up the pipe? You’ve found the right place. You should know that JR Cigar offers many lines to rival any pipe store. It’s not surprising that some people assume a company named JR Cigar isn’t in the pipe industry. They probably did not sell shirts if I went to a shop called JR Pants. Does this make sense? No? Let’s move on.

If you haven’t tried this before, it is an entirely different way to enjoy yourself. Pipe smoking requires patience and dedication. The rituals for loading, lighting, and tamping your pipe to produce a great smoke require practice and patience. Once you have mastered the art of pipe smoking, it is a unique experience. You can choose from a wide variety of blends, and unlike cigars that end up in the ashtray, an elegant piece of briar will be a treasured item for life.

A very brief history:

Men considered their pipes part of their haberdashery in the early 20th century. Tobacconists would customize the shape of a tube to match a man’s face and clothing. In many high-class stores, lines were sold for the smoking experience and as a fashion statement.

Many young men began smoking pipes in college from the 1930s to the 1950s. It was a way to say, “Now, I am an intelligent college lad.” How wonderful it must have felt for these fraternity boys, dressed in cardigan sweaters with bow ties and pipes in hand as they sang their school’s song. Fast forward to 2015. These same guys’ grandchildren are struggling to pay back a $200,000 loan while still being able to buy a premium stick with subtle notes of charred wooden, balsamic vinaigrette, and nutmeg. The times have changed!

Pipe smoking was common in the 1960s and 1970s. However, it has declined except for a few loyal enthusiasts. People stopped playing the game; it became a lost hobby (especially for the younger generation, who were jeered at and had difficulty finding friends that did not belong to a Chess Club).

I can guess why the numbers have decreased. The wrong type of pipe was purchased and filled with shitty tobacco. Even the cheapo tobaccos and pipes were better made in years past than now.

It’s good to know that this has all changed. Pipe manufacturers today are creating some beautiful works of art, many of which are affordable. The wide variety of pipe tobaccos is better than ever.

Knowing that the pipe industry has experienced a revival in recent years, JR Cigar is stocked to the gills with some of the finest pipes and blends available. Savinelli Tsuge, Erik Nording, and Molina Dr.Grabow Peterson are just a few of the names you will find on JR Cigar.
